Exit imminent for Villa youngster with fee and clause touted

Aston Villa are reportedly set to agree on a permanent exit for Louie Barry as he will join Hull City in a deal worth £3.5m.

The 22-year-old has been sent out on a string of loan moves since joining us in 2020, with his latest stint having been with Hull last season after joining them in the January transfer window.

An injury blighted his time with the club though as he was limited to just four appearances, but he seemingly showed enough during that brief time to convince the Championship outfit that he is worth bringing back.

According to The Athletic, Hull are set to sign Barry on a permanent basis in a deal worth £3.5m, while it’s added that Villa will have a ‘substantial’ sell-on clause included in the agreement with the view of cashing in on a future move for Barry if he impresses at Hull.

It’s another sensible move from Villa to offload Barry permanently now, as ultimately his pathway to the first-team is blocked by a number of top players ahead of him in the pecking order, and so although it would have been ideal to see him make that breakthrough, the likelihood is that he would struggle to get meaningful minutes to prove himself at senior level.

Further, given the number of loan spells he’s had over the past four years, it arguably makes more sense at this stage of his career for both Villa and him to find a permanent home where he can establish himself, showcase his talent and secure a more prominent role to continue to develop.

In turn, should the deal go through as expected, it’s a good move for all concerned, with Villa continuing to utilise the transfer strategy of selling our young players to book ‘pure profit’, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden also expected to move on this month as the club’s focus will surely quickly shift to incomings and strengthening the senior squad in the coming weeks.

With the pair both said to have sell-on clauses in their deals. the hope is that they go on to impress, earn a big move and allow Villa to get another windfall further down the line.
