Aston Villa have reportedly submitted an offer to Marco Asensio and are pushing to sign him on a free transfer this summer.
The 27-year-old will see his contract with Real Madrid expire at the end of June, and speculation in recent weeks has suggested that he is set to leave the Bernabeu as opposed to signing an extension.

Asensio finished last season with 12 goals and eight assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, and the Spanish playmaker is seemingly now being lined up as one of our priority summer transfer targets.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have been in negotiations over a potential deal and made an offer to Asensio last week. He adds that although no decision has been made as of yet with interest from elsewhere too, Villa are pushing to get the deal done and secure our first signing of the summer.
Time will tell if a move materialises, but it would be an exciting addition to the squad as he would add technical quality, creativity and a goal threat in the final third to complement and add competition to what we already have in that department.
Further, given Asensio’s characteristics, he would arguably be a key signing for Emery to continue to implement and develop his preferred style of play in terms of having control in games both in terms of tempo and possession, and so it could be a really smart pick-up especially on a free transfer.
With Villa securing a place in the Europa Conference League on the final day of the Premier League season this past weekend and given the overall progression and ambition we have under Emery, it’s hoped that we can add real quality and significant upgrades to the squad this summer, and that could start with Asensio.
