Loan move touted as another target added to Villa shortlist

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford as we weigh up our options to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad.

After Emiliano Buendia’s loan exit to join Bayer Leverkusen and with the imminent departure of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr, Villa will be left short in attack.

The expectation is that the club will move to fill that void and bring in a needed reinforcement, but names continue to be added to the list of potential transfer targets.

As reported by The Athletic, Villa are now considering a possible move for Rashford, who is said to be available on loan for the remainder of the season as doubts continue to build over his future at Old Trafford.

It’s noted that there is still a long way to go in potential negotiations though as it’s unclear if Rashford is open to the move, and any deal will hinge on whether or not a compromise will be reached on his wages. Joao Felix and Marco Asensio are both explicitly named as options on our transfer radar too, and so there is real intrigue over who will arrive before the transfer deadline.

It’s been another difficult season for Rashford, as although the 27-year-old has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances, he has been frozen out by Ruben Amorim since his appointment amid question marks over his application in training.

The England international struggled last season having had his best campaign prior to that, while he’s bagged 138 goals and 63 assists in 426 outings in total for Man Utd.

We’ve seen that there is a really talented player there who has delivered at the top level for club and country, and perhaps a fresh start in a new environment, particularly under the tutelage of Unai Emery, could be exactly what he needs to get his career back on track.

It still remains a gamble though given the doubts raised over his attitude and his lack of consistency on the pitch, and so with Felix and Asensio potentially two alternative options, time will tell who becomes the priority and which deals are realistically doable from a Villa perspective as we must strengthen our attacking options before the deadline.

Fabrizio Romano has since reported that we’re also in the hunt for Bayern’s Mathys Tel, and so it remains to be seen if we can fend off Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal to land his signature as our solution.

Tel, 19, has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 83 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, and having been capped from U17s to the U21s for France, it looks as though he has a bright future ahead of him, and the next chapter of his career could be written with us.
