Aston Villa will likely have another busy summer ahead in the transfer market, and a change in between the posts could be one of the areas in which there is a specific focus.
Since the arrival of Unai Emery, Monchi and their staff, Villa have overseen significant turnover in the squad, with plenty of incomings and outgoings to build a group capable of challenging at a higher level.

We’ve seen the improvement and development over that period on the pitch as we look to qualify for Europe for a third consecutive year, and there is still hope that we will be back in the Champions League next season.
Naturally, there have been disappointments along the way, but there is a overriding sense that we’re building the right way and hopefully for long-term success as we look to grow off the pitch and increase our revenue streams.
With that work to maximise our revenue ongoing as we remain at a disadvantage compared to our more established rivals, we seemingly continue to face the threat of having to sacrifice a key player every summer to help balance our books, and according to the Daily Mail, that is the case once again this year as it’s reported that we’ll need to make at least one significant sale before June 30 to fend off the risk of breaching PSR parameters.
It remains to be seen who might depart with that in mind, as there have been a few players on the periphery this season that we could be tempted to move on, while our current loanees and youngsters will also be candidates to be sold on a permanent basis if the interest is there.
However, it’s noted by the Mail that Emiliano Martinez could also be a name in the mix, as they claim that Villa will listen to offers for the Argentine shot-stopper amid ongoing speculation linking us with a potential move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, while our current No.1 is said to have held talks with GestiFute, an agency service for footballers run by Jorge Mendes.
With Robin Olsen’s contract set to expire this summer and with reports pairing him with a return to Sweden, there could be major changes in the goalkeeper position at Villa ahead of next season, as if both were to depart, we’d surely need to replace and perhaps promote the likes of Joe Gauci and Oliwier Zych to ensure we’re suitably covered in that department.
Of course, it’s hoped that we ultimately don’t need to sell and Martinez stays as we instead look to build around what we already have, but if financial pressure dictates that we have to consider sales to balance our books and fund our own spending and we can identify younger alternatives at less cost who can fill those voids effectively, then we’ll perhaps see some important changes in the construction of the squad in the coming months once again.
