Villa paired with interest in attacking ace but face key obstacle

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Wolves ace Matheus Cunha, but an exit would be needed first to create space for him.

The 25-year-old is having an impressive campaign with our Premier League rivals, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 21 league appearances so far this year.

Having established himself as an influential figure, it’s no surprise then that he is now attracting interest from elsewhere, and according to Sky Sports, Villa are also keen on acquiring his services.

It’s not the first time we’ve been linked with a potential move for the Brazilian ace, as he has previously been paired with us when he was at Atletico Madrid and after Unai Emery’s arrival at Villa.

Obviously, the move never materialised on that occasion as he joined Wolves, but as per the report above, Villa are interested in him again, and so time will tell if a deal can be done to further bolster our attacking options after the arrival of Donyell Malen earlier this month.

It’s added though there are some significant obstacles standing in the way of a Villa swoop, most notably that we’d have to sell first in order to have the funds for sign Cunha, and to suimultanteouly continue to protect our healthy position in relation to PSR.

In turn, it remains to be seen who could leave, or if Emery is even willing to make such a sacrifice to make a change in that department, while it’s also noted that Wolves aren’t interested in losing their star man.

Time will tell if the situation changes in the coming days and whether or not it becomes a more realistic option, but if it doesn’t turn out to be Cunha, the report reinforces the relatively well-known position Villa are in currently, as Emery has mentioned himself on a number of occasions that we must likely work on the basis of one out, one in as we look to strengthen his squad.
