Contact made as Villa could face key exit decision on £30m-rated ace

Aston Villa could reportedly face a key decision on Matty Cash’s future after AC Milan made contact over a potential deal for the right-back.

The 26-year-old has established himself as an integral player in the current Villa squad, making 46 appearances last season as he cemented his place in Unai Emery’s side.

With our lack of competition and depth in that position, his importance was emphasised when sidelined, but it may not stop a possible exit from materialising this summer.

According to The Athletic, Milan have made contact for the Polish international, but Villa’s reported £30m valuation of Cash could prove to be problematic in negotiations, and so it remains to be seen if the two clubs are able to reach a compromise and find an agreement.

Amid building speculation that both Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran could move on this month, the report above goes on to cite Villa’s PSR concerns as motivation for potentially approving a sale of Cash, and so it remains to be seen how these factors combine and what it means for our squad moving forward.

As noted above, Emery had selection issues at right-back last season in Cash’s absence, with Ezri Konsa asked to shift across and show his versatility on numerous occasions.

January signing Kostas Nedeljkovic will arrive from Red Star Belgrade this summer after spending the rest of the previous campaign on loan with the Serbian giants, while youngster Kaine Kesler-Hayden will hope to come into contention after gaining valuable experience in the senior squad last season.

Nevertheless, with Villa looking to clear their PSR concerns this month with sales, the expectation is that we will be proactive in July in signing reinforcements and have the financial flexibility and spending power to do so, and so if Cash is to depart too, we’ll surely be analysing and assessing our options with a view of signing a replacement if an ideal opportunity and priority target emerges.
