Aston Villa have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Milan Skriniar in a potentially timely solution.
The 29-year-old has a wealth of experience at the top level, particularly during his successful six-year stint at Inter, while he has 77 caps for Slovakia to his name as he has established himself as a top player both at club and international level.

His time at PSG isn’t going the way he would have hoped though, as he’s been limited to just five appearances so far this season, and that in turn has seemingly sparked speculation over his future.
According to the Daily Mail, Skriniar has been offered to Villa as the Ligue 1 giants look to offload him, and so it remains to be seen if he’s considered by Unai Emery and the management teal as an option that would improve the squad and give us a more reliable presence at the back.
That said, time will tell if it advances to discussing personal terms and whether or not an agreement can be reached there let alone between the two clubs, and so although it’s been touted as a possibility, it seems as though there is still a long way to go before it becomes a realistic option.
What is clear at this stage though is that Villa could do with defensive reinforcements, as with Pau Torres sidelined for two months after suffering a broken metatarsal just over a week ago, we’re already short of competition and depth at the back and will certainly miss his influence in the side.
Further, it’s been reported that Diego Carlos could be moving closer towards an exit to join Fenerbahce this month, and so if that were to materialise, then we would undoubtedly need to make a move for a defender in this window to ensure we have enough quality and depth in that department to compete.
Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa are set to play fundamental roles in the coming weeks as they rebuild their partnership in the heart of the Villa defence, but beyond Carlos, we don’t have any senior options to provide cover until Torres returns.
Depending on the formula of the agreement, in terms of whether it’s a loan or an outright signing and what the figures involved are, Skriniar could be a solid addition to the squad with his aforementioned experience and defensive qualities. At this stage though, he may well be just one of many options who we’re considering on our shortlist for the January transfer window, and so time will tell if it develops into something more serious.
