Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson is reportedly wanted by Strasbourg in another loan deal after a successful temporary stint with the club this past season.
Given his ongoing struggles at Villa for regular playing time following his switch from Marseille in January 2021, Unai Emery approved of a loan exit for the Frenchman in January as he joined Strasbourg for the remainder of the season.

Sanson went on to feature 18 times for the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring one goal and providing two assists as he helped them avoid relegation and preserve their top-flight status for another year.
As expected to an extent, Strasbourg are now said to be keen to hold on to his services, with Alsa Sports reporting that they might eye a fresh loan deal this summer, which would see Villa cover a significant part of his salary again to reach a compromise on a temporary transfer.
It’s noted that Sanson joined without an option to buy included in his previous loan deal, while Villa agreed to pay a ‘non-negligible’ part of his wages. Further, with Strasbourg unwilling, and perhaps unable, to pay his full salary, a similar agreement would need to be reached for him to return there next season.
It was felt in January that Sanson could relish the opportunity of a fresh start under Emery, and he did score his first goal for the club in the FA Cup that month.
However, the Villa boss conceded prior to his exit that although he rated him highly, he needed to play regularly and get some momentum back in terms of his fitness and form, and that is exactly what Sanson has got from his spell back in France.
In turn, it remains to be seen if that was enough to convince Emery to give him another chance next season as we will certainly need the competition and depth given our hopes of not only progressing further in the Premier League and competing for domestic cups, but also to help ensure we enjoy a deep run in the Europa Conference League.
That said, Emery may well have his own plans this summer to bring in his own reinforcements, and so time will tell if another loan exit makes the most sense for Sanson, or if an offer of a permanent move comes in from elsewhere in the coming weeks as that would surely be the more ideal solution to avoid continuing paying his wages if he has no future with us.
