Villa tipped to be in pole position to land touted priority transfer target

Aston Villa are reportedly in pole position in the pursuit of Porto striker Samu Aghehowa ahead of a potential swoop this summer.

Having sold Jhon Duran in January and with Marcus Rashford’s current loan deal set to expire at the end of the season, that will leave Unai Emery light in attack with Ollie Watkins his only option to lead the line.

In turn, that is certainly set to be an area of the squad that will be improved this summer, and it appears as though Villa have potentially already identified our ideal target to fill that void.

According to OK Diario, Aghehowa’s desire is to play in the Premier League, and it’s noted that Villa have been monitoring the 21-year-old as he’s emerged as a priority target for us ahead of the transfer window.

Further, it’s added that despite interest from other clubs, Villa are believed to be in pole position for his signature currently, and so it remains to be seen if that’s still the case when the current campaign concludes.

It’s unclear at this stage as to how much it might take to prise him away from the Portuguese giants, but what we do know is that he is enjoying an impressive season as he has shown his talent and the potential to have a big future.

Aghehowa has scored 24 goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances across all competitions having joined Porto from Atletico Madrid last summer, and so it’s been a big step forward for his career to back up the tag of being one of the top young talents in Europe currently.

Aside from his goalscoring threat, the Spanish international is physically strong, athletic, agile and technically gifted, as he is adept at linking play together, holding the ball up and being the focal point of an attack.

Further, with his impressive touch and positional awareness, he is very effective at helping to build swift counter-attacks, and so on the basis of what we’ve seen from him over the past season, he would arguably be an excellent fit for Emery’s style of play and system.

At just 21 years of age, he has the potential to be a long-term solution for us up front and to add more firepower and competition for Watkins, but time will tell if we can continue to fend off competition for his signature and bolster our attacking options over the summer.
