Villa confident in pursuit of top target, three areas Emery could strengthen

Aston Villa are reportedly confident about securing the signature of Sverre Nypan this summer, while three touted areas of the squad could be strengthened.

Villa will hope to secure Champions League football for next season in our remaining three Premier League games in the current campaign, but we have ground to make up on our rivals for a top-five finish and will likely need to register three consecutive wins to have a chance.

Our ability to achieve that objective could have a significant knock-on effect for our summer transfer window, as it may well impact our ability to attract top targets while also trying to secure the futures of our current key players.

In turn, all our focus will be on Bournemouth this weekend, but Monchi and his staff will undoubtedly be busy planning our transfer strategy for the summer, and wit various scenarios in mind to ensure that we’re ready to move regardless of the outcome of this season.

According to The Athletic, Villa are confident about securing the signing of Nypan, with the 18-year-old Rosenborg starlet emerging as one of the top young talents in Europe.

With 14 goals and 11 assists in 67 appearances at senior level for the Norwegian outfit after coming through their youth ranks and having been capped from U15 to U21 level for his country already, the talented youngster has a potentially very bright future ahead of him, and the next chapter of his career could come in a Villa shirt.

It’s noted that the club have put in significant work already in laying the groundwork for a potential swoop, and there is belief that we’ll fend off competition to sign him at the end of the season to add another top young prospect to our ranks.

Meanwhile, the report goes on to note that Villa could be targeting three specific areas of Emery’s squad to improve in, with a right-sided centre half or right-back, a striker and a wide player all possibly on our agenda in the upcoming transfer window.

With Axel Disasi, Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford all potentially departing when their respective loan stints come to an end when the season concludes, that will certainly leave us short in those departments, and coupled with any additional exits, it certainly makes sense for us to eye targets for those specific positions. With question marks remaining over the likes of Matty Cash, Leon Bailey and other individuals who perhaps haven’t entirely convinced this season and upgrades are considered, it’s easy to see why we might need to move in those areas.

Time will tell who emerges as our preferred options to fill those possible voids, but this report, along with the speculation that is building around our transfer market activity, would all suggest that Villa are going to be active this summer in trying to improve the squad and making us increasingly competitive, even if it means losing key pieces too in order to balance the books.
