Aston Villa’s interest in Rosenborg starlet Sverre Nypan has reportedly decreased and there is concern we could now miss out on signing him.
The 18-year-old midfielder has emerged as one of the top young talents in Europe and has attracted significant interest as a result, having made a positive impression at senior level for Rosenborg while breaking into the Norway U21s set-up.

Villa’s President of Football Operations, Monchi, flew out to Norway to hold talks with Nypan’s father and watch him in action earlier this year, with the report at that time suggesting that we were in pole position to land the signature of the exciting young starlet.
However, things appear to have shifted as we enter the summer transfer window, as according to Adressa, Villa’s interest is said to have decreased in recent weeks, and so that has subsequently opened the door for other clubs to potentially swoop in and convince Nypan to snub us and move elsewhere.
It’s added that no deal has been agreed with any party at this stage, but negotiations are ongoing with several clubs, and so it remains to be seen whether or not Villa can still get this transfer over the line having seemingly put in so much work already.
The report doesn’t offer much in the way of an explanation behind the change in stance, and so it’s left for us to speculate on whether it’s linked to our failure to qualify for the Champions League which in turn has turned Nypan’s eye elsewhere, or if we’re simply not in a position to sign him this early in the summer as our priority is sales to comply with PSR ahead of the June 30 financial end-of-year deadline.
Time will tell if the talented prospect is still on the market next month and whether or not we’ll be in a better position to get the deal done, but it certainly sounds as though there is a real risk now that we miss out if a rival club steps up their interest.
Monchi and the rest of the management team will no doubt be pushing to get our books balanced in the coming weeks and it’s hoped that we can secure an outgoing that addresses the issue as soon as possible, as ultimately that will then give us a bit more flexibility to try and continue to improve and strengthen Emery’s squad.
