Aston Villa are reportedly now in advanced talks over the signing of talented Caen starlet Tidiam Gomis.
The 18-year-old came through the youth ranks at Caen before making his breakthrough with the senior side in 2023, and he he has since gone on to make 36 appearances for the first-team, scoring four goals and providing two assists, with both of those assists and two of his goals coming this season in 17 Ligue 2 outings.

Having represented France from U16s level to U19s, there is clearly a real talent there who is continuing to develop and may well have a bright future ahead of him, and given Gomis is able to play on either flank or up front, but is more naturally a left-winger, that versatility will also carry appeal.
According to The Athletic, Villa are now in advanced talks with Caen over signing the teenage starlet, with the report noting that we’re likely to pay a small fee for Gomis, given his current contract is set to expire in the summer. It’s stressed that no agreement is in place as of yet, but talks are progressing.
Taking into consideration all relevant factors, this potential signing is likely one that is made with a long-term vision in mind, as the Villa scouting department have evidently spotted something in Gomis, and believe that he has a promising future ahead of him if he can continue to develop and improve.
His lack of experience and need for that development would suggest that he’ll either stay with our youth team or move out on loan to continue to gain experience, and so whether he goes on to prove himself capable of making the breakthrough at senior level at Villa or if it’s ultimately a move that makes us a profit in the future, we’ve seen how important that aspect of our transfer strategy is now to continue to balance the books and have long-term planning in place.
Time will tell if a deal is announced in the coming days, but Gomis may well be edging closer to starting a new chapter in his career with us.
