Double loan exits confirmed as Villa youngsters look to impress

Aston Villa have confirmed that Tommi O’Reilly and Finley Munroe have joined Crewe Alexandra and Swindon Town respectively on season-long loan deals.

Villa have done an excellent job over the past four years or so in particular of bringing young talent through our Academy, with a number of top prospects emerging and going on to be loaned out to gain valuable experience to further develop their game.

As per the club’s official statements, both O’Reilly and Munroe will spend next season out on loan at Crewe and Swindon respectively, where they’ll hope to establish themselves in the starting line-up and gain regular and consistent playing time to aid their development.

From a Villa perspective, that will in turn either lead to a breakthrough in the first-team further down the line if Unai Emery believes that they’re capable of making an impact at that level, having already given both their senior debuts albeit in brief outings, or they’ll be sold on a permanent basis to continue to help balance our books and fund our own spending.

We’ve seen that strategy utilised on countless occasions over the past two years, with the likes of Tim Iroegbunam, Aaron Ramsey, Cameron Archer, Omari Kellyman and many others being sold for significant fees.

In turn, it’s in everyone’s best interests that these loan spells go well, and it’s hoped that we’ve successfully picked landing spots for the talented pair to thrive and showcase their potential.

Both O’Reilly and Munroe are highly-rated, with the former in particular catching the eye with his technical ability and creativity in the final third as well as his eye for goal, and so it’s hoped that they can both make the most of these latest loan stints and return to Villa next summer much better off after their experiences.
