Enquiry made as Villa eye possible swoop to bolster attacking options

Aston Villa have reportedly made an enquiry with Real Salt Lake regarding the possible signing of winger Zavier Gozo.

The 18-year-old has bagged four goals and four assists in 34 appearances for the senior side after coming through the youth ranks, while he has been capped twice at U23s level for USA.

As a natural right-winger with the versatility to play in other positions in midfield and up top, Gozo would address a need for Villa on our right flank, and it appears as though he has caught the eye of our scouting and recruitment team with his performances in MLS.

According to Matteo Moretto, Villa have asked Real Salt Lake City about Gozo, and so it remains to be seen whether or not that advances further into talks over a potential transfer.

Villa have already signed Alysson from Gremio this month to bolster our attacking options with a young player that Emery can improve and develop, and so it would be interesting if we went back into the transfer market to bring in another signing in that department.

Given our recent track record, there is also the possibility that we’re adding young talent to hopefully sell for a profit further down the line too, and so it remains to be seen what the plan would be with Gozo, if a deal is done with Real Salt Lake.

Nevertheless, it’s further insight into our intentions and strategy in the transfer market, as after reports of a swoop for Metz teenager Brian Madjo this week too, it seems as though President of Football Operations, Roberto Olabe, has been tasked with bringing in young players with big potential, either to address key positions in our squad in the long-term future or to help balance our future spending with sales once they increase their value.

It’s already been a fascinating month, and it remains to be seen what further moves Villa make, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, to help improve and strengthen Emery’s squad this season and beyond.
