Aston Villa have announced that defender Tyrone Mings has signed a contract extension, which will reportedly keep him with us until 2027.
The 32-year-old joined us in an initial loan deal from Bournemouth in January 2019, before making his switch a permanent one at the end of that campaign.

It’s been quite the journey for the centre-half and Villa since, having been promoted back to the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League, with Mings having now racked up 187 appearances for the club while earning 18 caps for England.
After sustaining a devastating knee injury in the season before last which sidelined him for over a year, he has battled back and returned as strong as ever to re-establish himself under Unai Emery, and that in turn has led to the agreement on a new contract.
As per the club’s statement, Mings has put pen to paper on a new deal, while it’s reported by the The Athletic that it’s a 12-month extension, thus keeping him at Villa through to June 2027.
With just 12 months left to run on his previous deal, a decision was needed on the commanding defender’s future either way this summer, and evidently the club still value him highly and believe he has a key role to play for Emery, while Mings was delighted to have extended his stay with us further.
“In the time I’ve been at the club we’ve had quite the journey,” he said after penning his new contract. “Every player signs for a club hoping they can contribute positively towards something successful and my belief that we can achieve something extra special is stronger than ever.
“I thank the fans, the manager, the staff and the players for their unwavering support both on and off the pitch through one of the toughest periods of my career. I’m sure that next season will be our best one yet!”
Although he faces ongoing competition from Pau Torres, while talented youngster Yasin Ozcan will arrive to compete for that position too in the long run, Mings showed this past season that he is still more than capable of playing a leading role at the back when needed.
His physical presence, reading of the game and defensive qualities all helped us become a tighter defensive unit when he was involved, and given we were undefeated in the 14 Premier League games that he featured in during the last campaign, that says a lot about what his impact and influence can do for us.
He’ll likely have to continue to share playing time with Pau in particular, but as Villa continue to try and compete on multiple fronts, it was an important decision to maintain depth and competition, while also keeping an important voice in the dressing room in place to continue to lead the group to headier heights next season.
