Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has revealed that the club are working on bringing in possible reinforcements in the January transfer window.
After a slow start to the campaign, Villa have recovered brilliantly in the last few months as we now sit in third place in both the Premier League and Europa League standings.
That comes as a result of our current nine-game winning streak across all competitions, and so there is real optimism and excitement over how far we can go this season.

Villa have a big decision to make in January though, as while our financial position will dictate our ability to spend in the transfer window, it remains to be seen if we look to significantly strengthen the squad in light of how our season is developing, or if we stick to our plan and strategy for the long run.
Based on his comments below though, Emery is certainly hoping to see new faces arrive to improve his squad and make us increasingly competitive, both in the second half of this season and beyond that.
“Of course, the club is working, and we have always one eye in the transfer window, and in case something can help us, and you can have one opportunity to sign some players (who) can add us something different,” he told the media, as quoted by BirminghamLive.
“Of course, quality, of course, experience, of course, something with increasing our qualities in the squad, we must do it.”
There will also be question marks over who might leave next month, as Harvey Elliott’s initial loan stint hasn’t gone to plan at all thus far, and so it remains to be seen if Villa and Liverpool can reach an agreement to cut short his time with us as it doesn’t look as though he’ll make the necessary number of appearances to trigger the clause to sign him outright.
Coupled with injuries and the absence of Evann Guessand after his call-up from Ivory Coast for AFCON, there are holes in the current squad, and so it will be interesting to see what moves we make.
For now though, our full focus will undoubtedly be on Manchester United this weekend followed by games against Chelsea and Arsenal before the transfer window even opens for business, and it’s hoped that we’re in an even stronger position by then to really attack the market and attract our priority transfer targets.
