Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of defender Victor Lindelof on a free transfer to bolster our defensive options.
The 31-year-old left Manchester United earlier this summer after his contract expired at Old Trafford, and he has since been assessing his options for the next chapter in his career.

Having made 284 appearances for the Red Devils, coupled with 71 caps for Sweden, he adds a wealth of experience and leadership, with Villa confirming in an official statement that Lindelof has now joined the club.
It’s added by the Express and Star’s Matt Maher that the Swedish international has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.
Unai Emery will likely be delighted with the acquisition, as Villa undoubtedly needed another right-sided centre-half option to compete with Ezri Konsa and provide depth over the course of the season as we look to compete on multiple fronts.
Lindelof will provide that and has plenty of Premier League experience to call upon to settle in quickly, as well as competing in European competitions, and as long as he can stay fit and step in to do a job when required, it will hopefully prove to be a savvy piece of business from Villa.
It’s expected to be a hectic deadline day for the club as speculation is rife over possible reinforcements arriving, and given our woeful start to the new campaign, we’re certainly in need of a boost through new faces coming in the door.
Having had Axel Disasi on loan in the second half of last season to fill the same job, we’ve now got a more permanent solution in place, with Lindelof also having the versatility to give Emery cover in other roles and giving alternative tactical solutions too.,
With this deal announced, our focus will likely now switch to the attacking third to strengthen our options in that department to hopefully add much-need creativity, quality and firepower.
