Villa confirm signing of talented youngster, touted fee and contract details

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Yasin Ozcan from Kasimpasa on a pre-contract agreement after significant speculation last month.

The 18-year-old came through the youth ranks at the Turkish club and has since gone on to make 81 appearances at senior level, while he’s been capped from U16s to U21s level for Türkiye.

As per the club’s statement, they’ve announced that we’ve acquired the centre-half on a pre-contract agreement and he’ll return to Kasimpasa on loan for the remainder of the campaign, while the Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell has reported that it’s a deal worth €7m plus €1m in add-ons, with the Turkish talent putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

It’s a continuation of the club’s transfer strategy of acquiring talented young players, who will either go on to make a breakthrough under Unai Emery and form part of our first-team squad, or perhaps will go down an alternative route which hopefully ends in us making a profit off their future sale.

Naturally, the ideal outcome would be to see our squad continue to get stronger and with a long-term vision in mind, but such is the pressure of the financial side of the game now as we continue to navigate PSR and raise funds to bring in reinforcements, it’s a big part of the job and a balancing act for Villa’s President of Football Operations, Monchi.

Ozcan certainly looks as though he has potential and he’ll hopefully benefit from staying with Kasimpasa on loan for the rest of this season, as he looks to continue to improve and develop his game while maturing into a better all-round player ahead of his move to England.

Evidently, Villa’s scouting and recruitment team have spotted something they like in the youngster, and so time will tell what the next step in his career is when he joins up with the Villa squad for pre-season training in the summer.

While it’s an important strategy, it’s also crucial we see the top prospects get chances at Villa before they get offloaded on loan or otherwise, as we’ve seen with the likes of Enzo Barrenechea and Kosta Nedeljkovic over the past 12 months, that there is a risk they start on a path with a temporary exit, which could eventually lead to a permanent one as we cycle through talent.
