Aston Villa have officially confirmed that our Premier League encounter with Burnley has been postponed due to additional players testing positive for Covid-19.
Villa’s encounter with Sean Dyche’s men this Saturday was just one of two that was still set to go ahead with several postponements having already being confirmed as the spread of the virus continues.

However, as noted by the club’s official site, after results were received from yesterday’s round of testing, more members of the playing squad have been confirmed as positive and so that in turn has forced the hand of the clubs involved to call the game off.
Those individuals in question will now isolate and so it remains to be seen who is able to return in time to face Chelsea next week, with our encounter currently scheduled for Boxing Day, and whether we have enough numbers available to avoid another postponement.
Further, time will tell if the league will stick with their strategy of moving forward with the schedule without taking a break to allow squads to recover, or if these ongoing setbacks force action from them too.
Naturally, the priority now is the health of those players affected and it’s hoped that all impacted make a swift recovery to be back in contention as soon as possible. It’s a frustrating blow for Villa and Gerrard though given our impressive form in recent weeks, as it runs the risk of breaking our momentum slightly having hoped to continue to climb the Premier League table after four wins in six.
Nevertheless, with countless other clubs now being affected by the latest wave of the virus spreading and games being called off, it’s an ever-evolving situation that we’ll need to adapt to and do the best we can to prioritise the health of the staff and ensure games go ahead moving forward.
