Aston Villa face Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday night, and Unai Emery has named his starting line-up for the encounter.
Villa go in search of three pivotal points in a bid to end our current eight-game winless streak across all competitions, as it’s clear that our slump in form has had a detrimental impact on the players and our performances.

While Brentford will pose a difficult challenge, it’s imperative that we get a positive result in midweek with Southampton visiting Villa Park at the weekend, and so this week is seen as a big opportunity for us to get back on track.
It was unclear if Emery would freshen things up with some rotation for this clash or try different solutions to get us out of trouble, and as per the club’s post below, he has made two changes to the side that faced Chelsea at the weekend, with Tyrone Mings and Leon Bailey coming in for Pau Torres and Jaden Philogene respectively, who both drop to the bench.
It’s a first start for Mings in the Premier League since August 2023, and so although he returned to action in Europe last month, it will be an important test for him to prove that he’s back at the level required to come back into the side and do a job as we need to improve defensively as a priority.
There was a huge boost though as Emiliano Martinez was named in the Villa XI despite being forced off at half-time on Sunday with a finger injury, and so it’s a vital lift for all concerned to have him available to try and lead us to an important victory.
Emery will have devised a game plan that he believes gives us the best possible chance of winning this game, and so it’s hoped that the personnel changes have a positive impact, while the others must also step up their level of performance and help us secure all three points.
