Confirmed Villa XI vs Ipswich: One key change from Emery

Aston Villa face Ipswich in the Premier League on Sunday, and Unai Emery has named his starting line-up for the encounter at Portman Road.

Villa go in search of a fifth win in our opening six league games this season, and coupled with wins in the Champions League and Carabao Cup thus, it’s been a hugely positive start to the campaign for Emery and the players.

However, it’s vital that we maintain that level and keep our consistency going as we face another tough week both in terms of opposition and scheduling, and so it’s hoped that we come away with all three points on Sunday to keep building our positive momentum.

Emery confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that John McGinn is out for another two to three weeks with a hamstring injury, while Matty Cash will return to full training next week. Both Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are expected to be available for selection again after the upcoming international break.

In turn, there are still key absentees from the squad, but as seen in the club’s post below, we have still named a strong starting XI, along with a talented bench, to hopefully get the job done and secure another victory.

There is one change to the side that started in our win over Wolves last weekend, with Leon Bailey coming back in to replace the injured McGinn, while Diego Carlos has recovered from a knock he picked up in the warm-up before our win over Wycombe Wanderers in midweek to keep his spot.

Elsewhere, it’s unchanged as Emiliano Martinez starts in goal, with Lucas Digne, Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa completing our backline, with the latter starting at right-back once again.

Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana form our midfield pivot, while Bailey, Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey will provide support behind Ollie Watkins.

As noted above, Villa have a strong bench again given our squad depth, and so while it’s hoped that we don’t necessarily need them to come on and change the game, Emery has those options at his disposal if required.
