Aston Villa face Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday night, and here’s how Unai Emery’s starting line-up looks for the clash.
Villa arrive on Merseyside looking to end a three-game losing streak after defeats to Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Club Brugge across the Carabao Cup, Premier League and Champions League over the past fortnight.
It’s arguably our worst run since Emery took charge, and particularly with our performances nowhere near our best, it has been a concerning period as we wait for a positive reaction.
With the International break to follow, it would be a huge result if we got something from our trip to Anfield against Arne Slot’s men who have been very impressive so far this season, but naturally, it promises to be a difficult challenge, as it always is when facing Liverpool away from home.
Emery confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that both Matty Cash and Ross Barkley remain out due to injury, while there was a doubt over Youri Tielemans due to a minor knee issue.
As per the club’s post below though, there was an important boost as the Belgian midfielder was passed fit to start in midfield, while Villa make four changes to the side that started in midweek.
Pau Torres, Lucas Digne, Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey come in for Tyrone Mings, Ian Maatsen, Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn, as Emery makes four changes and hopes that it inspires a return to form with three important points.
As noted above, the level of our recent performances has been well below our usual standards, and so it’s hoped that we give a good account of ourselves this weekend, and hopefully that results in a positive outcome.
