Douglas Luiz on his flourishing partnership with Kamara in Villa midfield

Aston Villa ace Douglas Luiz has revealed his delight over the partnership that he is developing with Boubacar Kamara and our new style of play.

Villa have significantly improved both in terms of performances and results since Unai Emery was appointed, with the Spanish tactician gradually beginning to implement his philosophy and influence our identity.

From our defensive organisation and discipline to the creation of many more chances per game, there has been clear progression since he arrived and he’s getting more out of the players at his disposal.

Key to that improved form, which has seen us win three of the four Premier League games that he has overseen, has been the midfield partnership between Luiz and Kamara.

Combining the defensive solidity and intelligence of Kamara with Luiz’s technical quality and ability to get forward and create has been fundamental in our recent run, with the pair complementing each other well and covering for one another in that midfield pivot.

Luiz is unsurprisingly enjoying his football at this moment in time, and he was full of praise not only for the way in which Villa are approaching games under Emery, but specifically working with Kamara in midfield.

“I’m enjoying it so much because we’re staying on the ball, being calm and making more passes. We enjoy the game when we have the ball,” he told Villa TV. “I’m so happy because we’re comfortable and confident. I like Bouba because he’s such a good player and he’s helping me so much.

“I enjoy playing with him. He’s such a good player. He’s a young player with a big future.

“I’m so happy with the result [vs Tottenham] because we played a very good game and we were so comfortable on the pitch. We need to forget it because the game has passed now. We have a big game tomorrow and we need to concentrate on this game.”

It really is an exciting prospect to see how this Luiz-Kamara partnership develops, as Villa look more in control of games and have the presence in midfield to dominate and dictate the tempo with possession.

That is something that has been missing from our team for so long, and while there is of course still plenty of room for improvement for the pair, there is nothing that we can disagree with Luiz on from his comments above.

Kamara has been an excellent signing thus far, and while he has proven his class in his own right with his performances, the fact that he is improving those around him and helping them to shine too proves that he is an elite talent.
