‘So happy to be back out there’ – Villa ace shares delight over injury return

Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey has spoken frankly about his injury troubles and is delighted to have returned from his latest setback.

The 23-year-old suffered a hamstring injury against Liverpool on November 9, and subsequently missed nine games across all competitions before coming on from the bench in our draw with Brighton last time out.

Prior to that, Ramsey has struggled with setbacks over the past year or so consistently, and it has led to a disrupted and inconsistent impact from the Villa Academy product.

Having been a big influence following Unai Emery’s appointment as he showcased some of his best form at the club, he will be desperate to get back to that level and re-establish himself as a pivotal figure in the Villa starting line-up alongside the likes of Morgan Rogers and Leon Bailey in the final third.

For now tough, he’s clearly very happy to just be injury free and back working with his teammates having put another recovery process behind him.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks being injured again, but I was so happy to be back out there with the boys,” he told VillaTV. “It’s been great being around them again. Sometimes being injured can be lonely when it’s just you and physio.

“I missed a tonne of games previously, but we’ve got another busy period with the FA Cup and Champions League games as well.

“I’m hoping that I can stay fit and work my way into the team again.”

Meanwhile, Ramsey also spoke about Villa’s first half of the campaign, as we currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League table, while we have the Champions League and FA Cup still to compete in.

It could be argued that our season has been slightly underwhelming and disappointing thus far as we’ve dropped points in games we should have won, but evidently the mood is positive within the group as they eye a strong push in the second half of the year.

Hopefully, Ramsey and the rest of the squad will stay healthy and find their best form to put a strong run of form together, and perhaps we’ll also see reinforcements arrive this month to help boost our chances.

“We’re doing well,” he added. “The boss mentioned it before the Brighton game that if we continue this form and get the same amount of points from the next 19 games then we’ll be in contention for European football.”
