Villa confirm top prospect signs new contract in key development

Aston Villa have confirmed that Lamare Bogarde has put pen to paper on a new contract to commit his future to the club.

The 20-year-old joined us from Feyenoord in 2020, and after impressing at youth level, he has been on the verge of making a breakthrough at senior level under Unai Emery.

After being involved in training with the first-team squad for some time, which follows on from loan stints at Bristol Rovers, Bogarde joined his teammates for our pre-season schedule this summer, and he continued to make a positive impression.

As per the club’s official statement, he has now signed a new contract to secure his Villa future, and it will be fascinating to see whether or not he can build on this and make an impact this season.

While many of our top young talents have been loaned out again this summer, and Bogarde has experience of that previously having spent time at Bristol Rovers on two separate occasions, it was reported earlier this month that the expectation is that he will stay with us this time round and offer depth for Emery.

Given the Dutchman’s versatility to play either in defence or as a defensive midfielder, he could be a useful option to have at the Basque coach’s disposal, particularly as we have a long and gruelling season ahead of us as we try to compete across four competitions.

In turn, if Bogarde has earned the trust of the Villa boss, it will be a great opportunity and a big test for him if he does stay, as it’ll hopefully allow him to continue to prove that he’s ready for the step up.

That said, time will tell if that is the path Villa opt to go down with the talented youngster, as it could be argued that a loan spell at a higher level could be a crucial next step in his development.

Either way, the important thing is that he’s penned his new deal, and hopefully we’ll see him have a big future at the club in the coming years.
