Mail: Aston Villa line up £30m move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a £30m move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Leon Bailey as we continue to look to bolster our attacking options.

Villa’s pre-season schedule gets underway tonight as we make the short trip to Walsall, but it appears as though there is likely to be further movement on the transfer market too.

As per the Daily Mail, Villa are lining a swoop up for Bailey with the 23-year-old said to be valued at between £25m and £30m, while it’s suggested that we consider him to be an attainable target.

It’s added that Villa still have major plans for this transfer window and there could yet be further big signings to come following the acquisitions of Emiliano Buendia and Ashley Young thus far.

Bailey enjoyed an impressive season last year, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions, while he has the versatility to play across the front-line but has predominantly been used on the right flank by Leverkusen.

Should a move materialise, that would undoubtedly add further quality to Villa’s attack, making it one of the most potent in the Premier League with Buendia, Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins hopefully set to lead the way this season.

Time will tell if Bailey is the next marquee signing made by Villa this summer, but the report above suggests he’s certainly on our radar, while it remains to be seen what kind of impact that has on the likes of Bertrand Traore, Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet as competition for places would continue to increase.

Nevertheless, it’s a good headache to have from Dean Smith’s perspective if it improves the squad, while it remains to be seen if additional reinforcements arrive to bolster other areas of the group too before the transfer deadline.
