Aston Villa’s President of Football Operations Monchi is reportedly set to launch an attempt to prise Ferran Torres away from Barcelona this summer.
The former Sevilla sporting director arrived earlier this month in his new role as part of new-look management infrastructure, and the expectation has since been that he’ll closely assess the Spanish market for reinforcements to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad.

Speculation has linked us with various names this summer to add to the signings of Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres, with the next area to be addressed seemingly set to be our attack.
According to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, Monchi is expected to make an approach for Torres, with the 23-year-old said to be one of the options being considered to bolster our options in the final third.
Torres joined Barcelona in January 2022 after a stint at Man City, and he’s since gone on to contribute 14 goals and nine assists in 71 appearances for the Catalan giants.
With 15 goals in 35 caps for Spain, there is evidently a top talent there with a lot of experience already despite his young age, and so time will tell if he emerges as a priority option for Emery in the coming weeks.
What is clear is that we need to add more competition and depth in that department to support and compete with the likes of Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins, as we look to become a more potent attacking threat capable of competing across multiple fronts in the upcoming campaign.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Villa have submitted a second, improved offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, but given we face competition from Saudi Arabia for the Frenchman’s signature, time will tell if we ultimately win that particular race and spend big on him.
With Jeremy Doku also touted as a potential option by Romano, Villa may well be targeting more than one new signing for our attack, and so it remains to be seen if Torres climbs the pecking order and becomes a priority as things become clearer on who are the most realistic targets.
The Spaniard would be an intriguing addition if he were to arrive, but given Emery’s track record of improving players since he took charge at Villa, there’s little doubt that whoever he chooses, he’ll be able to develop them and ensure they play a key role in his system and preferred style of play.
