Aston Villa have confirmed that Frederic Guilbert has re-joined Strasbourg on another loan deal that will see him spend this season with the French club.
Guilbert, 26, featured for us in pre-season before appearing against Barrow in the Carabao Cup last week, but it was expected that he would have limited playing time behind Matty Cash in the pecking order at right-back this year.

With that in mind, Villa have confirmed that he has joined Strasbourg on a season-long loan deal, heading back to the club where he spent time last year as he hopes to enjoy a more prominent role.
Time will tell what that means for his long-term future as ultimately Dean Smith will feel comfortable with Cash as his first-choice, while the likes of Ashley Young, Ezri Konsa and Axel Tuanzebe can all shift across and fill in if necessary too.
Further, with Kaine Kesler Hayden getting a loan move this season to gain experience and develop his game, he will return next summer hoping to be pushing for a place in the senior Villa squad too.
In turn, it remains to be seen if this is ultimately just a temporary move for Guilbert before sealing a permanent exit further down the line, but for now, Villa will hope to see him impress at Strasbourg and give them something to think about while he’ll be desperate to show his class and worth in the coming months too.
We wish Fred all the best in his latest move, and it’s hoped that if he does showcase his quality this season, that in turn does result in him perhaps getting another chance at Villa.
