Official: Villa youngster Aaron Ramsey joins Cheltenham Town on loan

Aston Villa have confirmed that Aaron Ramsey has joined Cheltenham Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old is widely regarded as one of the top prospects within our youth system, and he played an integral role in our FA Youth Cup success last season.

As part of the next step of his development, Villa have announced that he has joined Cheltenham for the rest of the campaign, where he will hope to not only gain valuable playing time and experience, but to also help the League One side with their objectives this year.

With older brother Jacob following a similar path in his time at Villa thus far having come through the Academy, been sent out on loan and now established as a regular figure in the first-team squad and in the starting line-up under Steven Gerrard, his sibling will undoubtedly be hoping that he can follow in his footsteps in the coming years.

For now though, it’s important that he gets the opportunities to impress and improve at Cheltenham, as there has been a mixed bag in terms of our top young talents and their respective loan spells so far this season.

The likes of Brad Young, Louie Barry and Arjan Raikhy have all returned to the club after slightly underwhelming stints away in the first half of the campaign, while in contrast, Kaine Kesler-Hayden enjoyed a productive time at Swindon Town and has been recalled with the possibility that he might have a chance to impress Gerrard in the coming weeks.

Ultimately, the aim for both Ramsey and Villa is to have him back at the club a stronger player in the summer. A decision will then be made on the next step of his career as it’s hoped that he has a big future for us ahead of him along with the other names mentioned above as Villa have undoubtedly emphasised the importance of our youth system over the past few years.
