Aston Villa have confirmed that Mungo Bridge has joined FC Annecy on a season-long loan deal as he looks to gain experience and develop his game.
The 20-year-old featured for the Villa U23s last season while also making his senior debut against Liverpool in our FA Cup tie back in January, and he is undoubtedly highly thought of by the staff at the club.

However, with a lack of playing time at the top level expected this season given the senior players ahead of him in the pecking order, Villa have opted to send him out on loan to improve rather than remain with the U23s, and as per the club’s official site, Bridge has joined FC Annecy on loan for the rest of the campaign.
It’s a move to the third tier of French football and so time will tell how good a fit this move is for Bridge, but if he does return having gained a lot from the experience and developed positively as a result, then all parties concerned will be pleased with the switch.
He joins a string of our talented young stars to move out on loan, and that is perhaps the most sensible next step of their progression as time will tell whether or not they’re good enough to break into the senior squad further down the line.
For now though, Bridge’s focus will be on impressing for Annecy this season, and then it will be up to Villa next summer to decide what the best next step is for him moving forward.
