Imminent announcement expected as Pau Torres to Villa update emerges

Aston Villa are seemingly now preparing to announce the signing of Pau Torres from Villarreal, after the defender was spotted at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday.

As per Fabrizio Romano, video emerged earlier in the day of the Spanish international arriving at the airport en route to Birmingham, as he’s set to be unveiled as our second summer signing on a five-year contract.

While there was no official news from Villa, as seen in the tweet below from @dinge79, images emerged from Bodymoor Heath of Torres as he has seemingly completed the formalities of his transfer and was seen wearing the Villa training kit.

That in turn would suggest that an announcement and unveiling is imminent, with Villa expected to make the move official on Wednesday as we add another top talent following the signing of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer at the start of this month.

Torres brings experience, pedigree, defensive quality and technical ability to Unai Emery’s squad, and it was clear given speculation has been rife for some time now that the Villa boss was keen to secure a reunion this summer to strengthen our backline options.

The signing will ramp up competition in the centre-half positions with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos and Torres offering real class in that department now, and so as we hope to compete on multiple fronts this season, we’ll need that depth over the course of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Villa’s new President of Football Operations, Monchi, can also be seen in the images below as he accompanied Torres at the training ground, and so it would appear as though the Spaniard has also begun work despite the club not officially unveiling him or dropping any hints on social media that he had arrived.

It’s expected that announcements will be made and interviews held to offer more insight from those involved, but Torres is undoubtedly a top signing for Villa, and it’s hoped that we continue to go from strength to strength with Emery consistently re-emphasising that any new arrival will only be brought in if they significantly improve what he already has available.
