Tyrone Mings provides injury update as Villa ace set for further tests

Aston Villa stalwart Tyrone Mings has posted an update on social media after suffering an injury in our draw with West Ham Utd on Sunday.

The 31-year-old went down in the first half and was visibly in real pain after heavy contact in a challenge from Mohammed Kudus, but there was encouragement as he attempted to continue.

Unfortunately, that lasted a few minutes before Mings was eventually forced off in the 38th minute, and based on his emotional reaction as he made his way down the tunnel, there was real concern given his history with serious knee injuries.

Those fears were allayed to an extent as Unai Emery ruled out a major setback in his post-match interview, while reporters present at Villa Park noted Mings was walking freely as he also made his way back out to sit on the bench for the second half.

However, while the Villa boss confirmed that our commanding centre-half will undergo further tests on Monday to determine the severity of the issue, Mings posted an update on Instagram shortly after to confirm that it wasn’t a serious blow as he is all-too familiar with what they feel like, as seen below.

The expectation is that he will still be ruled out of our upcoming games as he receives treatment, and that will only amplify our need to sign another centre-half before the January transfer window deadline, having already seen Diego Carlos leave this month while Pau Torres remains sidelined with an injury of his own.

That leaves Ezri Konsa as our only senior option at centre-back, with Lucas Digne shifting across to play alongside him against West Ham with mixed results.

The good news for now is that Mings hasn’t done serious damage again and that will be a relief to all concerned given his injury record and how long his previous absences were, but that glaring drop off after his withdrawal coupled with a lack of options to fill the void he leaves will certainly be a concern for Emery in the next week or so, and it simply must be addressed.
