Aston Villa have confirmed that Unai Emery has agreed to a new five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
It has been an incredible journey thus far with the Basque coach at the helm, as he has taken us from facing the threat of relegation in October 2022 to qualifying for the Champions League just 18 months or so later.

As he continues to improve and develop the squad, coupled with the evolution and progress being made off the pitch, it’s an exciting time at Villa to build on what we’ve achieved thus far and try to strengthen further to compete at the top level for major honours.
In turn, it was always going to be crucial to secure Emery’s long-term future as given his impact and influence at Villa over the past year and a half, there is little doubt that top clubs from around Europe would have been keen to prise him away.
However, fortunately for us, the club and the 52-year-old have agreed on new terms to extend his stay at Villa further, after an initial agreement was announced last month over an extension.
“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club,” Emery said, as per the club’s official site. “Since I came to Villa with Wes and Nassef we found always the best environment and structure to develop a project with the highest ambition.
“All the football structure with Monchi and Damian and the owners, we share the same vision and same goals.
“There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”
Meanwhile, Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris also gave his initial response to the news, as he was unsurprisingly delighted to ensure that Emery will continue to oversee our progress on the pitch after a magical start to his tenure.
“We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029,” Sawiris noted. “As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”
It’s a real credit to our owners that we’re seeing their ambitious plans and strategy continue to deliver results, and installing Emery at the helm for the foreseeable future was always going to be a foundational piece to get sorted to kick-start an exciting summer.
With so much to look forward to on and off the pitch in the coming months, this is a superb way to get the ball rolling and keep our momentum from last season going, and it’s hoped that we see Emery continue to get backed and reinforce his squad to ensure we take the next step next season with Champions League football also to look forward to.
