Amid speculation linking Aston Villa with appointing Mateu Alemany in a key role, Unai Emery has given his thoughts when asked about the possibility.
As per Fabrizio Romano, it’s suggested that it is now ‘just a matter of time’ before Alemany officially arrives, albeit he will continue at Barcelona until the summer, while there has been no confirmation as of yet and exact details regarding his potential role are still unclear.

In turn, while we await to hear something more concrete from the club, Emery was asked by the media during his pre-Wolves press conference on Friday about rumours of Alemany’s arrival, and while the Villa boss wasn’t prepared to go into specifics about that particular suggestion, he made it clear that the club will look to strengthen our off-field structure this summer.
“It’s not the moment to speak about some circumstances that could come here, about some expectation about who is coming here,” he told the media, as per VillaTV.
“When I was committed with the chairman Nassef and with Wes, we were speaking about the objective in our future we want to create. We want to strengthen our structure. To try to get another level going up with the team, with the players, with the structure we can create here.
“And of course, Mateu Alemany is a person with experiences, he has worked at a high level and, if he’s coming here, because it is a possibility, it will be a very good opportunity to create a strong structure with him.”
It certainly sounds as though discussions have taken place at the very least, and coupled with the speculation, Alemany’s arrival sounds inevitable to add that strength to the Villa structure that Emery is seeking.
In turn, it will hopefully make recruitment more efficient and successful moving forward with the pair having a shared vision of what we want to build, and should the move ultimately be confirmed by Villa, it’s another exciting new chapter for us that will hopefully lead to becoming increasingly competitive in the coming years.
Ever since Emery arrived, it was felt as though it would be important for his influence to stretch beyond the playing squad as he looks to turn us into genuine contenders for silverware and in Europe, and this could be another big step towards that becoming a reality.
