What Emery and Sawiris said as Villa confirm new long-term deal

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery shared his delight after it was confirmed that he has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

The 52-year-old arrived at the club in October 2022, and the transformation under his stewardship was immediate as he led us to seventh place and qualification for the Europa Conference League in his first season in charge.

This past season saw further progress and improvement as we secured fourth spot in the Premier League and booked our place in the Champions League next year.

As Emery continues to develop the players at his disposal and strengthen the group, it’s clear that we’re heading in a positive and exciting direction under his management, and so it was imperative to secure his long-term future to ensure we continue to deliver on this vision and strategy.

Unsurprisingly, Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris was delighted having been able to agree on new terms to extend Emery’s tenure, as he reiterated the feeling that something special is brewing at the club.

“We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029,” Sawiris said.

“As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”

As for Emery, he echoed that sentiment and paid tribute to the ownership and those around him, as we have the infrastructure in place to continue to build on this incredible first 18 months with him in charge.

Further, he made sure to mention the Villa fans as he always does, and this news will be music to the ears for us all as we look forward to seeing where he takes us next season and beyond.

“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club,” Emery noted in his first words since the announcement.

“Since I came to Villa with Wes and Nassef we found always the best environment and structure to develop a project with the highest ambition.

“All the football structure with Monchi and Damian and the owners, we share the same vision and same goals.

“There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”

With so much to be excited about this summer, on and off the pitch, with potential reinforcements for the squad, the full unveiling of our new crest and kit and pre-season preparations amongst many other things, this is the perfect foundational piece to add first ahead of what’s to come.

Emery’s confirmed and continued presence at Villa will solidify our plans, hopefully keep the core of the current group in tact given our ambitious and stable plans for the future, and help us with recruitment this summer to continue to improve as we target bigger objectives next season.
