Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has praised Philippe Coutinho’s application and is eager to help him rediscover his best form.
It’s been a struggle for the 30-year-old so far this season, as he has made 20 appearances across all competitions but hasn’t contributed a single goal or assist thus far.

After dismissing speculation over his future via social media last month, it’s hoped that Emery can help revive his stalling stint with us between now and the end of the season, and the Spanish tactician is evidently pleased with what he’s seeing from the playmaker in training.
“Philippe is working in training with a humility that is difficult to assume for a player of his level, I see Coutinho as an important value,” he told DAZN Brazil, as per Fabrizio Romano.
“We’ll try to help Philippe to bring out his best again here at Villa.”
While this is positive to hear in that Coutinho’s attitude and commitment is where it should be, the real test is being able to produce and showcase his quality on the pitch to make a decisive impact for the team when given an opportunity.
We’ve not yet seen that this season as he has struggled since his loan spell with us became permanent, but having worked his way back to full fitness after sustaining an injury prior to the World Cup break, it’s hoped he can make a significant impact in the weeks and months ahead.
Ultimately though, while Emery is currently keen to see him flourish again in a Villa shirt, the club will likely make a decision in the summer as whether or not Coutinho features in the Spaniard’s long-term plans.
In turn, it’s an important period for the Brazilian international as while he may well be happy to stay, Emery will no doubt have plans to mould this squad into his own and will want to improve where necessary ahead of next season.
