Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was pleased with his side’s performance in our 3-1 win over Luton Town, but reiterated the challenge to not slip in our level of performance.
Goals from John McGinn and Moussa Diaby before an own goal helped us on our way to all three points, as we made it 12 consecutive home Premier League wins.

While we perhaps weren’t at our ruthless best, Villa didn’t necessarily need to go through the gears in this one as we looked in control for the most part, dominating possession and limiting Luton’s threat.
In turn, it appeared as though the gameplan worked well, and while Emery was particularly pleased with our effort in the second half, ever the perfectionist, he also pinpointed certain aspects where he still wants to see improvement from his players.
It was certainly a shame to concede and fall short in our bid to keep a clean sheet following a bizarre own goal, but ultimately the most important thing was to pick up another win and keep our momentum going.
“We tried to keep our gameplan. In the first half we didn’t concede one corner,” he is quoted as saying after the game, as per BBC Sport. “In the second half we controlled the game more like we had been preparing.
“We always want to score more goals, we want to win with clean sheets, the most important for us it to try and get good performance and try and be consistent and not be under this level of performance for 90 minutes.
“Today was a very important match, we tried to be consistent in our gameplan. We respected them because they won at Everton and drew at Nottingham Forest.
“We are connected with our supporters. I am feeling it and their energy.
“Very satisfied. These three points are very important for us. Only I can be not very happy with the goal we conceded because it was a strange mistake.
“The idea was to control the game, to keep ball possession and to try and avoid their transition, their moment with the ball and don’t concede a lot of corners and we did. Overall I think we deserved to win.
“It is a challenge, to always try to be consistent and get a high level and not play under this level. It is a process, we are building a team.
“For me it is still a long process here and I will want to work to improve as always. Of course I am happy but still being serious, serious in the way I want to build here and improve more.”
As he often does, Emery continues to emphasise the connection with the Villa supporters, and it hopefully continues to build with the success that we’re having so far this season.
Villa were patient and measured throughout as we showed more clear signs of the style of play that we’re continuing to implement, while guarding against the threat of Luton on the counter attack.
Importantly, we’re scoring the first goal in these games and relatively early on a consistent basis to break sides down and avoid a sense of growing frustration that comes with a struggle to find a breakthrough.
We also now have a week to rest before our next game away at Nottingham Forest, and that will no doubt be crucial as we recharge and regroup before trying to extend this superb run of results.
