Aston Villa are said to be in ongoing talks with Ashley Young over a new contract after his previous deal expired.
The 36-year-old re-joined Villa last summer and was seen as a key addition to the squad given his experience and winning pedigree that he has acquired over the course of a successful career.

While he was a valuable option for Steven Gerrard in the second half of the campaign, particularly given his versatility which allowed him to plug different holes when needed, it was hoped that his stay at Villa would be extended to allow him to continue to be an important part of the squad.
However, having been confirmed on a list of released players by the Premier League last week, it was feared that Young would be on his way out, but it seems as though ongoing discussions are taking place between the two parties over reaching an agreement on a new deal.
As per the Express and Star, Villa are in talks with Young over a new contract, and ultimately it’s hoped that they can find a solution that suits both sides to ensure that he remains at the club moving forward.
As important as his versatility and experience is, his leadership and know-how could prove to be equally as crucial to some of the younger players in the squad too, and it’s certainly important to have those individuals around the group to provide a balance.
Young made 25 appearances across all competitions last season, providing two assists to go along with what was his main job on most occasions of carrying out defensive duties as he predominantly slotted in at full-back.
