Villa player ratings vs Man Utd: Hause seals win, Douglas Luiz impresses

Aston Villa secured a rare win at Old Trafford over Man Utd on Saturday, with Kortney Hause heading home our winner in a 1-0 victory.

The hosts had a late chance to grab a share of the spoils, but Bruno Fernandes sent his penalty over the bar as Villa returned home with all three points and their first win away at Utd since 2009.

Both sides had chances with Villa arguably having the better of them, but despite being unable to take advantage earlier in the encounter, Hause ensured we got a deserved reward for our efforts as we prepare to face Tottenham next.

Villa player ratings vs Man Utd:

Emiliano Martinez, 8 – Called into action on a few occasions and produced fine saves to preserve his clean sheet. Did his best to unnerve Fernandes for the penalty and overall was solid between the posts.

Ezri Konsa, 8 – A superb defensive display as he produced several blocks having put himself on the line to help Villa get the win. Will be disappointed he didn’t get on the scoresheet himself after heading over a great chance.

Tyrone Mings, 8 – An equally impressive performance at the back from our skipper, as he kept things tight at the back and was composed in possession to give us a foundation to build on.

Kortney Hause, 9 – Excellent in defence as he did well to contain Cristiano Ronaldo and nullify Utd’s threat, and he capped off a great week with the winning goal and it was a beauty of a header.

Matty Cash, 8 – Full of energy as always as he was up and down that right flank all day. Should have had an assist but for Matt Targett blazing an effort over when it should have been tapped home, but was good in both phases of the game again.

John McGinn, 8 – Couple of moments where he slipped up, but a battling, determined display from McGinn in the midfield as he gave us a foothold in the game and showed quality at times in our build-up play.

Douglas Luiz, 8.5 – Assist for the goal with a top quality delivery from the corner, and was classy throughout in keeping Villa ticking and moving forward to cause a threat to the Utd backline. A really positive outing for the Brazilian.

Jacob Ramsey, 7 – Energetic as always, did well to press and put pressure on Utd’s midfield and got forward down that left side as much as possible to add to our attacking threat in the final third.

Matt Targett, 7 – Should have put us ahead early in the game but missed a glorious chance. Put that behind him though and put in a solid defensive shift in a difficult assignment against Mason Greenwood.

Danny Ings, 6 – Worked tirelessly for the team with his pressing and tracking back, and played a key role in the win. However, his partnership with Watkins still needs some work as their understanding isn’t quite at its best yet.

Ollie Watkins, 6 – Another one who missed a big chance in the early stages as he fired an effort straight at De Gea and should have done better. Similarly to Ings, worked hard up top to press, but it’s hoped his wait for a Premier League goal this season doesn’t go on too long as the frustration will no doubt build.

Substitutes:

Emiliano Buendia, 7 – Fresh legs in the latter stages, added impetus and fresh drive to VIlla’s play on and off the ball while looking threatening at times in Utd’s half.

Cameron Archer, 6 – Great to see him get on and get his Premier League debut, fresh threat towards the end.
