Aston Villa and the rest of the Premier League will find out the fixtures for the upcoming 2021/22 campaign at 9am on Wednesday, June 16.
While the focus for many football fans currently is on the European Championship, attention will soon switch back to domestic matters with the Premier League campaign not far away.
READ MORE: Three key issues Aston Villa must address this summer transfer window
Villa ended last season well with wins over Tottenham and Chelsea to wrap up what was a campaign with ups and downs as Dean Smith and his players will be pleased with the progress made.
That said, there was arguably a missed opportunity too as our poor form in the second half of the year saw our hopes of European qualification fade away and so it remains to be seen if we’ll be in a stronger position to compete after the transfer window closes.
Naturally though, it will be a clean slate as the new season gets underway, and Villa will discover their first opponents and other key dates across the campaign on Wednesday morning.
Ultimately we’re simply playing each team twice, but a favourable run of games to start the season, perhaps against teams with latecomers returning from international duty not yet available, could be the ideal scenario for us to make a strong start and build on that through the Christmas period.
With fans also set to filter back into Villa Park and around the country, there is unsurprisingly plenty of anticipation over what is to come next season, especially if the club can continue to add quality reinforcements like Emiliano Buendia to strengthen the squad further.
