After a brilliant campaign, Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans was deservedly a big winner at the club’s End of Season Awards event.
Prior to his recent injury, the 28-year-old was a fundamental presence in the Villa side, as he’s made 52 appearances this season, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.

His influence and impact go well beyond his goal contributions though, as whether it has been in the deeper midfield pivot or in a more advanced role, the Belgian international has been a class above for much of the season.
With his ability to dictate and control possession and tempo, he has been a pivotal player for us with his reliability, durability, consistency and quality, and he was deservedly recognised for his contribution on Wednesday night.
As per the club’s site, Tielemans won both the Supporters’ Player of the Season award and the Players’ Player of the Season award as his influence was acknowledged by the Villa faithful and his teammates.
That ultimately says it all when he’s appreciated by all involved at Villa, and while we’ll likely miss his presence in our season finale at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday, he has been such a vital cog for us all year.
Albeit he had a relatively slow start to his Villa career last season given the high standards that he had previously set, he has relished taking on more responsibility and leadership this year, showcasing his class through both his influence on the ball but also by setting the standard and tone for his teammates with his all-round game.
It’s hoped that he continues to develop and improve under Emery as his midfield metronome and think-tank on the pitch, and few will argue that there was a more worthy winner of these two awards after what has been a highly impressive season for Tielemans.
