Aston Villa are reportedly very close to reaching an agreement over the signing of AC Milan defender Pervis Estupinan.
Villa are expected to be in the market for a new left-back this summer as Lucas Digne has been linked with a departure to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Should that exit materialise, it would leave us light in the position, as Unai Emery will no doubt want competition and depth to push Ian Maatsen for the starting role.

In turn, it looks as though Estupinan has emerged as the solution as Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo has reported although an agreement hasn’t been reached between the two clubs as of yet, it is said to be very close as discussions continue in order to find a breakthrough.
Further, he adds that personal terms have already been agreed upon, with the Ecuadorian international expected to earn €3m per season, and so time will tell how long it takes for a deal to be struck between Villa and Milan to allow the transfer to become official.
Estupinan impressed during his previous spell in the Premier League with Brighton, while Emery knows him well having worked together at Villarreal previously.
With that in mind, it could be a really sensible move from Villa to add a back-up behind Maatsen who can adapt and settle in quickly, while the Dutchman must now show the quality and consistency needed to emerge as our first-choice option in that position.
What the pair will give us is a similar attacking threat and hopefully an end product, while it’s fair to say that they’ve shown further work is still needed on the defensive side of their respective games in order to be efficient in both phases.
It’s been a busy week or so for Villa in the transfer market, and the expectation is that this coming week will continue in a similar way as both incomings and outgoings are likely.
