Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Zepiqueno Redmond on a free transfer after his contract with Feyenoord expired.
The 19-year-old came through the youth ranks with the Dutch giants before making his breakthrough in the first-team, and he leaves after bagging two goals in nine appearances after flourishing at youth level prior to that.
He’s also capped at U19s level for the Netherlands, as he played a key role in helping them triumph at the European U19 Championship last month, and so it appears as though he has a bright future ahead of him for club and country if he can continue to improve and develop.

As per the club’s statement, Villa have signed Redmond after he became a free agent, and it will now be fascinating to see what the plan is for the Dutch starlet with Fabrizio Romano reporting that he has put pen to paper on a contract until June 2029.
While he could initially be integrated into our youth set-up to continue to adapt and develop his game, there is also the possibility of a loan spell elsewhere to gain valuable experience at a high level and continue to improve through regular playing time.
That said, with a lack of alternative options to Ollie Watkins up front as things stand, it remains to be seen if Unai Emery intends on integrating Redmond into his first-team plans immediately. That seems unlikely at this stage as we’ll surely be targeting a more experienced option to add more firepower, but the Dutch forward could have chances to feature with Villa competing on multiple fronts again next season.
With his physicality, athleticism, technical ability and eye for goal, Redmond ticks a lot of important boxes as he could add an important fresh dynamic to our attacking options if he’s able to thrive under Emery in the long run, He’s shown he can link things together as a focal point while leading the line or make an impact in wider areas as he’s capable of playing across the frontline.
In turn, he could be a very useful option to have available, with Emery initially likely to assess him over pre-season and make a decision on his more immediate future based on what he sees from him in training and in our friendlies.
Although it’s perhaps an understated signing, Redmond is indeed our first new recruit of the summer, and it’s hoped that he can go on and prove himself to be a smart acquisition in the coming months and years.
