Trio of Villa stalwarts impress on international duty with stand-out impacts

Aston Villa have a significant number of players representing their countries over the international break, and Youri Tielemans, Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez impressed this week.

While new signings Victor Lindelof, Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott begin training at Bodymoor Heath with the likes of Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres, Ian Maatsen and Marco Bizot spotted at the training ground too, much of the squad is currently on international duty.

It’s hoped that they all make it through unscathed and avoid any injury setbacks, but it’s also encouraging to see them impress and make a positive, decisive impact when possible too.

As seen in the videos below, both Tielemans and Cash were on the scoresheet for Belgium and Poland respectively on Thursday night, and the pair both scored stunning goals from distance.

Naturally, it’s hoped that they can bring their shooting boots back with them when Villa face Everton on September 13, but it’s certainly one for Unai Emery to consider too in terms of getting them in advanced positions to make a decisive impact in the final third.

For Tielemans, it would have been a proud moment having been named Belgium captain this week too, and as he continues to play a fundamental role for us, it’s hoped that he can continue to go from strength to strength.

Meanwhile, there was a clean sheet for Martinez in Argentina’s win over Venezuela, and after a tumultuous end to the summer transfer window having been heavily linked with a potential exit from Villa, it’s hoped that the time back home will settle things down and allow the shot-stopper to refocus ahead of returning to the Villa starting line-up next week.

After a difficult start to the season in which we’ve taken just one point from a possible nine, it’s hopefully going to be an important reset for the players whether they are on international duty or not, as we can put that poor run of form behind us and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

It will be crucial to get the players back from international duty well ahead of that Everton game though to ensure everyone is sharp and fully prepared for that encounter, but seeing the likes of Tielemans and Cash enjoy moments like those seen below, will hopefully not only lift their spirits and confidence, but that also translates to their Villa teammates on their return to lift the mood at Bodymoor Heath heading into our next encounter.
