Aston Villa have confirmed that Matty Cash has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The 28-year-old joined us from Nottingham Forest in 2020, and he has since gone on to make 193 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing 12 assists to go with his defensive work.
It’s a timely announcement after the Polish international scored our winner in a 1-0 victory over Manchester City this past weekend, as he continues his excellent form this season with Villa recovering from a difficult start to the campaign.

As per the club’s official statement, Cash has put pen to paper on a new contract that extends his stay with us until 2029, and so it’s another core member of the current squad that has his long-term future secured with the club.
Aside from his goal, the Villa right-back produced another top-class defensive performance against Man City this past weekend, showing his focus, discipline and tenacity to help us keep a clean sheet and seal all three points.
It’s an area of his game, along with his ability to be decisive in the final third, that he has clearly worked hard on to improve in, and he’s certainly remained a fundamental fit for Unai Emery in that position.
Question marks have arguably been raised over his future with us at times given the signings of Kosta Nedeljkovic and Andres Garcia in recent years, with the perception perhaps being that Emery and Villa were looking for a long-term replacement for Cash.
However, he has continued to fend off the competition from younger arrivals, and he has certainly established himself as a trusted option for Emery in executing what he wants from his right-back as part of our tactical set-up.
It’s hoped that Cash can continue to build on his form this season and remains a pivotal fixture in this Villa XI moving forward, and a new contract is a well deserved reward for his recent form and hopefully provides all concerned with a lift to ensure he has a number of successful years with us ahead still.
