Villa keen to keep influential duo but stance could change

Aston Villa are reportedly eager to keep hold of both Emiliano Martinez and Morgan Rogers this summer, but significant offers could change things.

Both Martinez and Rogers have been fundamental pieces in our progression in recent years and were highly influential in our ability to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League last season as well as lift the Europa League trophy.

In turn, it’s hoped that we can continue to build around them moving forward as we look to keep kicking on and enjoy further success, but such is the financial situation that Villa continue to be faced with, sacrifices will potentially be needed in order to continue to strengthen the squad.

As per The Athletic, Villa are said to be adamant that Rogers will not be sold this summer amid transfer speculation already building over his future at the club, but it’s added that there is an acceptance that every player has a particular price that makes it difficult to turn down.

What that figure is, is unclear at this stage, and so it remains to be seen if any interested party submits an official offer that tests our resolve in the coming weeks and months.

Meanwhile, the report goes on to add that Juventus are interested in signing Martinez, but Villa are again keen to keep him at the club as he still has Emery’s full backing to continue to perform at the level required, but should an offer in excess of £15m arrive for the Argentine shot-stopper, Villa’s stance might just change.

The critical aspect of approving any sale this summer is whether or not we can bring in a replacement that fills that void and raises the level of the squad.

Further, given it’s an ageing group, adding younger options for a longer-term strategy could also be a priority this summer, and so it could prove to be a fascinating transfer window.

For now though, little is expected to happen with both players named above participating at the World Cup, but should exits materialise, from a Villa perspective, it’s imperative that we have plenty of time to bring in new faces to allow them to settle in over the summer and be fully prepared once the new season gets underway.
