Aston Villa injury news: Grealish offers update ahead of Man Utd clash

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has revealed that he’s hoping to be back in a week or 10 days as he continues his recovery from a shin injury.

The 25-year-old had been hugely influential for us this season, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists in just 23 appearances.

However, he’s now missed the last 11 games due to the shin issue, and with only a handful of games remaining in the current Premier League campaign, time is running out for him to get back to full fitness in time for the European Championship this summer too.

Villa’s win over Everton at the weekend arguably puts us back into the mix for a Europa League qualification spot, especially with upcoming games against sides directly above us in the standings, and so naturally having Grealish back for the run-in would be a huge boost for us.

Speaking to Prince William who was at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday to open the club’s new High Performance Centre at the training ground, Grealish provided an update on his condition and revealed when he hopes to potentially make his comeback in training at least.

“I haven’t actually got a date yet but I’m going to London on Thursday. I’m hoping a week or 10 days,” he is quoted as saying by BirminghamLive.

That rough timeline would rule him out of the Man Utd clash this weekend, and likely sees him sit out the home encounter with Everton on May 13 too.

In turn, perhaps the trip to Crystal Palace on May 16 will be pencilled in as a possible comeback game for our skipper, and it will undoubtedly be great to see him back in action even if he is gradually eased back into it to avoid any further setbacks.

Time will tell if Villa are still playing for Europe at that stage as it is certainly an uphill task to grab a qualification spot as things stand, but if we are, getting Grealish back to lead our charge could make all the difference.
