Aston Villa are reportedly in pole position to sign Aaron Ramsey this summer, as the Welshman is seemingly set for an exit from Juventus.
The 30-year-old endured another injury-hit season last year, but contributed two goals and five assists in 22 Serie A appearances for the Turin giants.

However, having perhaps failed to make the level of impact that they had hoped for, Ramsey’s future at the Italian giants is seemingly in doubt, with Sportmediaset, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb, linking him with a move to Villa.
In fact, it’s suggested that while Ramsey will leave Turin this summer, he is tipped to return to England after his previous stint with Arsenal, and Villa are said to be ‘on pole’ to sign him.
Given his age, injury history and wages, it seems like an unlikely addition to the squad as we continue to try and identify high level players but with plenty of value in the investment too.
That said, Villa need to find a balance between a young squad and experience, and adding players like Ramsey could help the younger members of the side develop and improve their respective games.
Time will tell how the situation plays out and whether or not we sign the Welsh international to play a key role for us next season and beyond, but for now, an exit from Juventus seems plausible, but whether or not we’re leading the race for his signature seems to be up in the air still.
A priority for Dean Smith this summer will be to ease the burden and pressure on Jack Grealish’s shoulders to create and make us tick in the final third, while also showing our ambition to the club captain as we try to break into the top six in the Premier League to qualify for Europe.
Perhaps with Ramsey’s past experience and the quality that he can still offer, he could arguably be a smart addition but it remains to be seen if the factors against him weigh heavily enough with Smith and the club’s owners.
