Emery provides welcome insight on injured Villa ace as he recovers

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has revealed that Tyrone Mings has been a consistent presence at the training ground since suffering his knee injury.

The 30-year-old sustained a significant knee injury in our opening game of the Premier League season against Newcastle Utd last month, in what was both a bitter and damaging setback.

Mings is expected to miss most, if not all, of the campaign with the blow, and we’ve already seen through our first six games of the season that his presence in the heart of the backline will undoubtedly be missed, such is his influence when in the Villa XI.

It remains to be seen when a timeline is presented on his recovery and potential comeback, but naturally it’s far too early at this stage given the severity of the issue.

In contrast to Emiliano Buendia though, who also suffered a serious knee injury last month but has provided regular updates on social media on his progress, Mings has been silent, and there has been no indication from any of his teammates as to how his recovery is going and if he has been around the squad.

Fortunately, Emery has provided some insight on the England international, and has confirmed that he has indeed been present at Bodymoor Heath in the past few weeks.

“For them [Mings and Buendia] it is difficult, but they are every day here with us,” he is quoted as saying by BirminghamLive’s John Townley. “We are trying to be close with them and they are very close with their teammates and everything we’re doing.”

It is absolutely vital that Mings keeps his spirits high, and the best way to do that is to be around his teammates and have that support and encouragement during his rehabilitation.

We’ve seen Alex Moreno post on social media as he offers his support to Buendia who is now going through his paces in pool-based exercises, but with Mings wiping his Instagram account of all-but one post after his injury setback, and seemingly wanting to adopt a different approach and mindset to his recovery, it has led to some concern amongst the Villa fanbase.

While we may not have seen him around, Emery’s insight is a welcome update and it’s hoped that both Mings and Buendia can make a full and swift recovery to perhaps even feature before the season is over.
