Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie as the transfer deadline edges closer.
Villa have brought in a number of new signings this summer to strengthen Dean Smith’s squad, but there is arguably still one area that needs to be addressed before the window closes.

Villa bounced back from defeat at Watford with a win over Newcastle Utd at Villa Park on Saturday, but the midfield was an area of concern given we’re still lacking an enforcer in that department who can dominate a game and give us control.
Numerous links have been made to various ‘targets’ dating back to the start of the summer, but as per Calciomercato, Villa are said to hold an interest in McKennie who could be sold by Juventus this summer with boss Massimiliano Allegri preferring other options.
It’s added that the 22-year-old is valued at between €30m and €35m by the Turin giants, while it’s explicitly stated that Villa are ready to make their move and have made the USA international a top target. That said, Tottenham, Everton and Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest and so we may face significant competition for his signature if he is indeed a priority.
With just over a week to go until the window closes, it remains to be seen if Villa’s business has yet to conclude as we’ve already brought in Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young, Leon Bailey, Danny Ings and Axel Tuanzebe.
Smith does have the likes of Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Morgan Sanson, Marvelous Nakamba and Conor Hourihane at his disposal to play in midfield, but there is perhaps a certain profile missing in that group in terms of the aforementioned enforcer, and so it will be interesting to see if there are further exits if a new signing is made.
